Twins Surrender Eight Runs in One Inning

A Single Inning Dooms the Twins

The Minnesota Twins suffered a tough loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday, giving up eight runs in a single inning during a 9-4 defeat. The Twins had been leading 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Rays exploded for eight runs on six hits and two walks off of Twins starter Chris Archer.

Archer Falters in Fourth Inning

Archer had been cruising through the first three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out four batters. However, he ran into trouble in the fourth inning, giving up a leadoff single to Ji-Man Choi. After a groundout moved Choi to second base, Brandon Lowe singled to put runners on the corners. Archer then walked Randy Arozarena to load the bases.

Manuel Margot followed with a two-run single to give the Rays a 2-1 lead. Archer then walked Austin Meadows to re-load the bases. Yandy Díaz then singled to drive in two more runs, chasing Archer from the game.

Rays Continue to Pile On

The Rays continued to pour it on against the Twins bullpen. J.T. Chargois allowed a two-run double to Choi, and Trevor Megill gave up an RBI single to Lowe. By the end of the inning, the Rays had scored eight runs and taken a commanding 9-1 lead.

Twins Rally Falls Short

The Twins tried to rally in the late innings, scoring three runs in the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Jorge Polanco and an RBI single by Carlos Correa. However, they were unable to overcome the big inning by the Rays and ultimately fell by a score of 9-4.
